How to embed Videos

The Direct URLs feature lets you use Canto's CDN (Content Delivery Network) to embed videos in web pages.

With Canto's CDN, you can share videos from your Canto library to your website by embedding the video.

Be sure to reach out to your Account Manager to make sure you have the Embed Video feature available for your Canto library.

Note: For the actual application of the video embed script, you will need to reach out to your own organization's web developer for further guidance.

Requirement: You need to be signed in using an administrator's account in order to enable this function.

User Menu > Settings > Configuration Options > Custom Configuration > Information Page

How to enable the usage of Direct URLs

If the Direct URLs section is not displayed on an asset's information page, the feature is not available. In this case, it must be set up by an administrator.

  1. In the Direct URLs field, click the + icon to move it from Fields to the Layout area.

  2. Then use the mouse to move the field to a suitable location.

How to embed videos

  • For videos, the Original File URL provides you with the video in its original file format and size.
  • The Low-Resolution MP4 URL offers a scaled downs version of your video as an MP4 file.

Additionally, we offer a feature to embed videos using streaming technology from Amazon Web Services (AWS).

If you do not see this add-on feature in your Canto account, please contact your Canto Account Manager for more details.

  1. Go to the Direct URLs field on the information page of the desired video.
  2. Clicking on Embed Video.
  3. The Embeded Video dialoge is displayed.
You can set the size of your video player (1 - responsive or fixed) and select the format of your streamed video (2 - HLS or DASH).
Apple's HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) is an HTTP-based adaptive bitrate streaming communications protocol. Support for the protocol is widespread in media players, web browsers, mobile devices, and streaming media servers.
Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) - also known as MPEG-DASH - is an adaptive bitrate streaming technique that enables high-quality streaming of media content over the Internet delivered from conventional HTTP web servers.
  4. Click on Generate.

Once the generation of the embed links is complete, you will be notified by email. When you open the Embed Video dialog again, you can conveniently copy the links to the clipboard and paste them from there into a web page (or its HTML source code).

Note: By default, Chrome allows downloading of embedded videos. To prevent this, please add this attribute to the <video> tag.
