With Canto's CDN, you can share videos from your Canto library to your website by embedding the video.

Be sure to reach out to your Account Manager to make sure you have the Embed Video feature available for your Canto library.

Note: For the actual application of the video embed script, you will need to reach out to your own organization's web developer for further guidance.

How to enable the usage of Direct URLs

The first step is to make sure you enable Direct URLs in your Canto account.

If you can’t find the Direct URLs section within the Information Page of an asset, it hasn't been configured yet. To do so, have a Canto Admin do the following:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Configuration Options > Custom Configuration.
  2. Select the Information Page tab.
  3. Move the Direct URLs section from the Fields area to anywhere in the Layout area.

How to embed videos

For videos, the Original File URL provides you with the video in its original file format and size.

The Low-Resolution MP4 URL offers a scaled downs version of your video as an MP4 file.

Additionally, we offer a feature to embed videos using streaming technology from Amazon Web Services (AWS).

If you do not see this addon feature in your Canto account, please contact your Canto Account Manager for more details.

  1. Clicking on Embed Video.
  2. The Embeded Video dialoge is displayed.
You can set the size of your video player (1 - responsive or fixed) and select the format of your streamed video (2 - HLS or DASH).
Apple's HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) is an HTTP-based adaptive bitrate streaming communications protocol. Support for the protocol is widespread in media players, web browsers, mobile devices, and streaming media servers.
Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) - also known as MPEG-DASH - is an adaptive bitrate streaming technique that enables high-quality streaming of media content over the Internet delivered from conventional HTTP web servers.
  3. Click on Generate.

Once generated, you receive an email about it and can copy your embed codes at any time from within Canto.

There is actually no need to regenerate your embed codes if you want to slightly alter them. You can simply make your desired changes to the code directly before embedding it.

Note: By default, Chrome allows downloading of embedded videos. To prevent this, please add this attribute to the <video> tag.
