Canto Connect is a desktop application for macOS that allows users to access Canto directly on their desktop.

With the application, you are able to:

  • Import complex folder structures. Canto will retain your folder structure so you don’t have to recreate it.
  • Import files and embedded file details (copyright information, geo-location data, tags and other metadata).
  • Upload branded assets like images, videos, documents, presentations, and more.

  1. Navigate to the Mac App Store.
  2. Click Get.

How to Use Duplicate Check in Canto Connect

As administrator, you can choose to have Canto Connect check whether the new assets are duplicates of existing assets when they are uploaded (this does not affect the settings in your main Canto library).

To set up duplicate checking in Canto Connect:

  1. Open the Canto Connect App. In the upper right-hand corner of your home screen you will find the settings symbol ().
  2. Go to the Settings tab.
  3. Enable the Duplicate Check by clicking on the slider.
  4. You will see the Duplicate Check settings appear at the bottom. Select the settings that best suit your needs. For a review of how the Duplicate Check settings work in Canto, refer to the following link.

You can upload content to an Upload Link via the Canto Connect app. Instead of inserting the URL for the main library, all you need to do is enter the upload link.

Note: The folder structure is not maintained when uploading your folder(s) containing your images/videos/documents when using an Upload Link via the Canto Connect app.

Using Canto Connect for Workspaces

You can also use the Canto Connect app for workspaces to conveniently upload files or entire folders.

  1. Open the Canto Connect app.
  2. Enter the URL of the workspace. Click Next.
  3. Enter your email address and password. Click Login.

The main Canto Connect screen is displayed. Continue as described above.

Canto Connect – My Collections

If you would like to have your My Collections saved to your Mac, you can set up a sync using Canto Connect.

  1. Once you are logged in to Canto Connect on your Mac, please select the settings icon.
  2. Head over to the Settings tab.
  3. Next to Canto Sync Folder, select Change and choose the folder on your Mac where you would like to save the assets.
  4. Head to the Status tab.
  5. Ensure My Collections is On, showing orange on the bottom right of the screen.
  6. Open your web browser and log in to your Canto account. By default, the sync for My Collections is deactivated.
  7. Click on the desired collection and activate the sync to your Mac. You can find the same option in the list view under actions. When the symbol is green the collection is synched.

Once this has been set up, your My Collections will sync to your Mac folder within 24 hours.

Note: The sync works in one direction only! Assets will only be downloaded onto your Mac, they will not be synced back to Canto after you have edited them locally on your Mac.
